Obituary for Jackie D. Carter

Jackie D. Carter, loving husband, father and Papa, passed from this life into his eternal home on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the age of 70 years. Funeral services honoring Jackie will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Pastor John Erwin officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford. The family invites you to share memories at a visitation from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, October 3, 2018 at the funeral home.
Jackie’s story begins with his birth on May 7, 1948 in Haskell, Texas, the son of the late E.W. (Jack) and Gladys Louise (Copeland) Carter. He graduated from Stamford High School and entered into service with the United States Army. Jackie was in the 503rd Engineer Company, serving in Stuttgart, Germany. He married Linda Byrd on July 1, 1989 in Abilene, Texas. On August 23, 1976, Jackie joined Stamford Electric Cooperative as a lineman and through the years, trained in various positions such as Second-Class Lineman, First-Class Lineman and Line Superintendent. On January 1, 1999, Jackie was named the Stamford District Manager. Jackie’s career with Big Country Electric Cooperative spanned an almost 35-year tenure when he retired on July 1, 2011. Some of Jackie’s favorite hobbies were hunting, camping and fishing and one of Jackie’s trademarks was his big grin and hearty laugh. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Stamford, always assisting with the Goodfellows project. He was also a past director for the Stamford Chamber of Commerce and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, John and Maude Carter; maternal grandparents, W.J. and Anna Rae Copeland; a brother, Billy Carter; and a sister, Patsy Carter Dodson.
Family surviving Jackie are his wife, Linda Carter of Stamford; two sons and their wives, Craig and Anissa Carter of Spokane, Washington, Lyle and Hilda of Laredo; two daughters and their husbands, Tracie and Brent Jeansonne of Walker, Louisiana, Misti and Brian Davis of Stamford; a brother, Ray Carter and wife Ann of Sweetwater; a sister, Rita McCraw of Oak Point; grandchildren, Stephen Carter, Brianna Carter, Tristan Jeansonne, Chase Jeansonne, Brooke (Davis)Turner, and Blake Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and his extended family of Big Country Electric Cooperative.
